Occupational therapist, hepatology fellow, dermatologist join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Kristy Cole, O.T.D.

Dr. Kristy Cole, an occupational therapist with 19 years of experience, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of occupational therapy in the School of Health Related Professions.

After earning her B.S. in occupational therapy at UMMC in 1999, Cole received her doctorate in occupational therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, Florida, in 2010. She has served in many roles, including regional team leader, program manager and rehab director within outpatient, home health and skilled nursing facility settings throughout Mississippi.

She is an active member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Mississippi Occupational Therapy Association.

 

Jawairia Memon, M.B.B.S.

Dr. Jawairia Memon, recently a hepatology fellow at Loyola University Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After receiving her M.B.B.S. from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan, in 2009, Memon had an internship at Civil Hospital, Karachi, from 2009-10 and an internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Montgomery, from 2011-14. She had her hepatology fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Illinois, from 2017-18.

An active member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians, Memon is the author or coauthor of six peer-reviewed articles or posters presented at scientific meetings. Her research interests include treatment of Hepatitis C with Harvoni; complications of feeding tubes; patients with chronic liver disease and obstructive sleep apnea; and Clostridium difficile infection in patients with cirrhosis, among other subjects.

 

Rodolfo Augusto Trujillo, M.D.

Dr. Rodolfo Trujillo, a Colombian dermatologist, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in dermatology.

After receiving his M.D. from the Universidad del Valle School of Medicine, Cali, Colombia, in 1994, Trujillo did his residency in dermatology from 1996-99. Subsequently, he joined the Universidad del Valle as a professor of dermatology, tropical dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases.

Trujillo also served as a dermatologist in several hospitals and health care facilities during his clinical practice. His experience in tropical diseases started at CIDEIM, a Colombian infectious diseases research institution, in 2000. He was also president of the Colombian Dermatology Association (Valle Chapter) and editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Colombian Dermatology Association from 2004-07.

Once in the United States, Trujillo shadowed the clinical practice of several dermatologists in Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. He worked as a researcher at the University of Connecticut in the immunology of cutaneous secondary syphilis. Since 2015, he has been assisting the grand rounds of dermatology at the University of Mississippi.

Trujillo is the author or coauthor of nine peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts, two peer-reviewed book chapters and one peer-reviewed online publication and has given more than 15 invited presentations at scientific meetings. He also is a reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Case Reports.
